Roney Picks Up First Offer

Detroit Catholic Central (Mich.) junior defensive end Dylan Roney has offer number one, but the excitement of the offer is taking a backseat to his team, which is currently in the playoffs.

An exciting time, as in, playoff time, got a little more exciting for Detroit Catholic Central junior Dylan Roney.

"I just got my first offer from Toledo," the 6'2, 235-lb defensive end said.

With his Shamrock squad looking to reach the state title game again, a game in which they lost last season, Roney is making sure he keeps his energies on the task at hand: winning the title this year. That, however, does not mean he wasn't happy to receive the good news from the Rockets.

"Well, right now, I'm focused on season, but when I found out, I was very happy. It's a good feeling that their coaching staff has put the faith in me to give me money to go to school there."

Roney attended Toledo's satellite camp in Wyandotte over the summer, and says he had enjoyed working with their coaches.

"I thought the coaches were real nice, fun, loose, laid back coaches. It was real cool meeting them. They were great guys."

He says he does not have any plans to visit Toledo currently, but says "I would like to get out there."

As far as other schools contacting him, it has mostly been Big Ten programs of late.

"Wisconsin and Michigan State mainly and Michigan has been a lot lately. I'm heading up to MSU this Saturday for their game versus Nebraska."

Of course, that is after he hopefully takes care of business against Walled Lake Northern on Friday, as he looks to help his team move closer to Ford Field.

"This year, it's mainly going to be all about our defense and if our defense gets the job done. We need to come out big and strong, play big and play like we can. If we do that, there's no team that can hang with us."
