Prep football careers behind them, focus turns to college decision
Ikegwuonu Brothers Enjoy Visit
The brothers plan to attend the same college and are currently looking at Northern Illinois, Ball State, Oregon State and Wisconsin. Wisconsin has not offered them scholarships yet but all others have.
"We're wide open right now," added Ikegwuonu. "It will probably be a last minute decision for us. If we find a school we really, really like then I'm sure we'll verbal and if not then we'll take our visit and weigh our options."
Bill, 6-0 and 200 pounds, is being recruited as a safety by the Broncos and Jack, 6-1 and 195 pounds, is being recruited as a cornerback and wide receiver. Both enjoyed successful senior seasons, leading their team to a 9-2 record and the second round of the playoffs.
Bill played primarily as an "athlete" this season where he averaged 31 yards per kickoff as well as 26.25 yards per reception on offense. Jack had a spectacular year on defense where he recorded nine of the team's 22 interceptions.
The brothers are both fully qualified academically and are working out hard on their own to get prepared for college. Currently they are both benching 295 pounds and squatting 450 while being timed at 4.40 in the 40-yard dash. Their work ethic is something they are banking on when they get to college.
"Jack and I work so much and we want to make an impact wherever we go," said Ikegwuonu. "It's up to the coaches but we want to come in and play early next season somewhere."
Defensive Line coach J.C. Harper is recruiting the tandem and they were hosted by freshman Darrel Copeland on their visit last weekend. The visit rated as an 8 on a scale of 1-10 by Bill Ikegwuonu.
"It was all right, we just went out and we didn't really know anyone so we just ended up standing around all night," he added. "I wouldn't say it was bad but since we didn't know anyone it maybe wasn't as good as we would have hoped if we were interacting with others."
The brothers are also participating in baseball this spring where they both play outfield. They plan to study business at their college of choice.
