Any Bronco fans looking for their football fix may want to head for campus this week for the first two full scrimmages of training camp.

Tuesday, August 17 the place to be will be the Davis St. practice fields for the first of two full scrimmages this week. Beginning at 3:35pm the Broncos will go full speed, full contact for an hour and as is the case with all practices this scrimmage will be open to the public.

Head coach Gary Darnell will be looking for “Performance level, as far as speed and execution.” He added, “We’ll see where some people are at [performance wise] and see if anyone has risen their level of performance to the point where they can actually play in a game.”

If you can’t make it to the Tuesday scrimmage you can catch scrimmage number two on Thursday, August 19 at 4:30pm. The Thursday scrimmage will be held in Waldo Stadium just hours after media day events. The public is invited to sit in the stands and take in an hour or so of football action for a preview of what you can expect from the Broncos all season long.

The starting quarterback race keeps heating up as well with front-runners Ryan Cubit and Blayne Baggett splitting time with the ones and the twos. Robbie Haas continues to improve his game and is making the coaches’ decision even more difficult. These scrimmages will be the first real good look fans will have at the race for the starting job in as close to a game situation as you can get during training camp.

In the event of poor weather conditions on either day the scrimmage will be moved inside the Seelye Indoor Athletic Complex.
