With the addition of a local sports channel on Comcast Cable in lower Michigan, with expected expansion to the Kalamazoo area in the near future, MAC football will be on Television from late September until mid November.
In a typical season
Western Michigan
football fans can expect an early non-conference game against a major conference foe to be televised, plus the possibility of a couple MAC games to be on TV. This season will be slightly different with no television for non-conference games, but the entire MAC schedule is expected to be on TV.
Comcast Local will pick-up seven of the eight MAC games, all except
Bowling Green
which is expected to be picked up by Fox Sports Detroit’s MAC Game of the Week.
Start times for several home games have been changed to accommodate the TV coverage. The homecoming contest against
Eastern Michigan
has been moved to 12:30pm, the next week’s game against
Northern Illinois
will be a 3pm start and the November 13 game against
Miami
will begin at 3:30pm. The home contest against
Toledo
on October 9 will remain at 7pm.
All games will be broadcast live as part of a three year agreement between the MAC and Comcast Cable to broadcast men’s and women’s sporting events involving teams within the MAC.
WMU has averaged just over 4 games on TV per season over the past seven seasons, but this season will see that average doubled thanks to Comcast.
