On it’s trip to Vermont to take part in the TD Banknorth Classic, the Western Michigan University women’s soccer team lost to New Hampshire on Sunday. The loss dropped the Broncos record to 1-1 on the young season.

The Broncos goalkeeper Kate Perz continued to dominate in the net but unfortunately gave up the only goal of the game in the Broncos 1-0 loss in the 47th minute. New Hampshire’s Lia Barros headed in a shot off a corner kick that gave New Hampshire the lead.

“We came out flat in the second half and they put a lot of pressure on us,” said head coach Mike Haines.” New Hampshire out-shot the Broncos 12-8. Coach Haines went on to say, “We gave them too many opportunities for the corners. I thought we finished the game pretty strong and had some chances, but couldn’t tie the game.”

Two Broncos made the All-Tournament team. Chantal Robinson and Katie Ruzinsky played important roles in the Broncos 2-0 win on Friday over host Vermont. But the Broncos ended up finishing the tournament 1-1.

The Broncos continue their road trip this Friday when they travel across the state to take on Oakland University for a 4:00pm non-conference game. The Broncos first home game is on September 11 against DePaul.
