Locker Room Report - CMU

Jason Babin

Following the Broncos' 35-10 win in Mt. Pleasant we caught up with Chris Browning, Jason Babin, Trovon Riley and Carlos Smith to get their thoughts on the huge win. The streak is offically dead!

Chris Browning

On the game overall ...

It's a great feeling, I'm in awe pretty much. The boys came up here offense, defense and special teams and we came to play.

On playing a complete game ...

From the first snap we dominated, we knew what we had to do and these young guys came out and helped the seniors out. I can't ask for anything more. We dominated the whole entire game and you can't ask for anything else on our way out. We broke the streak, it's off our back and we're taking this one home to Kalamazoo. I'm just so excited man.

Talk about the win ...

The win felt great. The sacks were a milestone for me as I was creeping in on the record after a three game drought but after that fourth down sack when the quarterback got pounced by three defenders that was a great feeling as we knew right then and there the game was over.

The streak is over ...

It was a big deal due to the media and our family and everyone. 29 years is a long time so there are a lot of people involved so to get that monkey off our back is good. For the seniors we have something positive on the season that didn't go well but now we have something to remember the 2002 Broncos by.

You overcame four turnovers and still won ...

That seems to be the trend up here, same in 2000. On the defensive side of the ball we talked about not worrying about the offense, we were just going to go out there and keep them down regardless of what the offense did.

Surprised by the quarterback starting his first game? ...

We weren't sure who was going to start. The scheme was going to be the same basically. We had some checks depending on the quarterback. It was a tough intense game.

You doused coach Darnell twice after the game? ...

We just wanted him to get wet (laughing). We just wanted to take advantage of the chance as you normally can't get away with getting your coach wet like that. We got him twice, why not. I'm sure he'll make us run tomorrow.

Defensive gameplan seemed flawless ...

Coach Knowles always puts in an unbelievable package each week and the only thing that hurts us in not doing the right thing in the right spots. In previous games that we allowed a big play or a score it wasn't the scheme it was the players. The scheme is always on the money with him.

Trovon Riley

Talk about your play ...

The first half I felt I played well but I wanted to come out the second half and play better. I was able to get another touchdown but yet with the fumble I had that kind of dragged me down but we got the win and that is what is important right now.

Carlos Smith

Talk about the win ...

Could be one of the more memorable wins since I've been here. It's been a log season, I think everyone knows that. We've lost a lot of close games and we had high expectations and that is how it should be every year. Going into our last game there was a chance for our seniors to do something no one has done in 30 years. We knew we could be known as the senior class that finally broke the streak even though we didn't win a MAC Championship.

Any different pregame preparation since the start was so dominant? ...

We knew we could win the game and we just fought and stuck to it. We didn't prepare any differently, it is a rivalry game and people might have been a little more emotional but we just came out ready to play. We just stuck it out though the whole game and didn't stop.

You and others were pretty banged up coming in to this game ...

Everything feels better right now with a victory like this. Regardless of how anyone was feeling coming in things are all better now.
