Georgia Trifecta

Darrel Copeland

With the loss of senior Carlos Smith at free safety, Kevin Ford is penciled in next season but the Broncos are also filling the Cupboard for the future. At 6-1 and 198 pounds, Jonesboro standout Darrel Copeland has committed to the Broncos after a very impressive official visit on January 10th.

"I really liked Western, it was cool," said Copeland who was hosted by Ford. "We went to some parties and stuff and spent time with the players and coaches and it was a good time."

Copeland was recruiting by former wide receivers coach Guy Holliday and he had only positive things to say.

"I loved all the coaches, especially coach Holliday," he said.

Copeland was visited in-home by coach Darnell this past Monday.

"I think coach Darnell is a nice coach, he's straight up," he added. "You leave Western Michigan a man."

Copeland is a full academic qualifier (2.9/760) and plans to study Computer Programming while at Western Michigan. He currently participates in basketball where he plays every position except point guard.

He helped lead his team to a 7-4 record and a 1st round showing in the Georgia 5A playoffs.

"I had 54 solo tackles and another 42 assisted," he said. "I also had two interceptions and 14 receptions on offense for 108 yards and three touchdowns."

Though Copeland came to Western Michigan alone, he felt very comfortable on his visit.

"I was there with a couple other guys from Georgia and we are all committed and I can't wait to get up there this fall," he said.

Copeland also considered Tennessee Chattanooga, Western Carolina (offered) and Connecticut.
