"He came to my house and he represented the school very well so I decided to take a trip out here," said Lopez.
Lopez officially visited Western Michigan on December 13th and committed verbally not long after, the 17th to be exact.
"Our school got out late, like a week before the dead period, so I had to decide where I was going to go," he said. "I felt that I'd have an opportunity to play here right away."
The Broncos are losing senior's Jermaine Foreste and Carlos Smith so Lopez may get to play early if he impresses this spring. He enters campus with impressive physical skills including a 4.40 time in the 40 and also a 40 inch vertical jump. Perhaps most impressive is his showing at a camp last year where he did 22 reps of 225 pounds on the bench. Very impressive for a safety in college.
"I'm on a mission out here and if I want to be the best I have to play with the best," he said.
Lopez plans to study Exercise Science and with spring ball in the not too distant future, he is ready and anxious to get started.
"The campus here is great and I love the facilities," he said. "I am looking forward to playing here with the great players they already have."
