| Biography: |
| Mike is an athletic goaltender known for his intensity and competiveness. He likes to handle the puck. He took part in summer workouts with the Broncos football team and served as a rabbit for the team's 600-yard test runs. He attended four different high schools. Mike was a regular at the GLI Tournament as a youth and his family also had season tickets to Red Wings games. The Broncos were one of his three favorite CCHA teams growing up. He also knew about WMU through an older brother who attended Bronco hockey summer camps. Mikes favorite goaltender growing up was Greg Stefan. He also admired the play of American goaltenders John Vanbiesbrouck and Mike Richter. He competed in a 26-mile marathon as a 15-year-old. Mike would like to operate his own business after graduation.
In his freshman season he shared CCHA honors among freshmen with two shutouts. He made 42 saves in a 4-4 overtime tie at Miami. Mike recorded his first career shutout with an 18-save performance against No. 6 Nebraska-Omaha and received Perani Cup No. 1 Star honors. He was chosen No. 1 Star with a shutout of Sacred Heart. He was named No. 1 star after making 23 saves in a 3-1 upset of No. 5 Michigan. He registered 29 saves in a 4-3 win over No. 7 Maine. Mike made his first career save by stopping UAF's Jason Grinevitch on a penalty shot and won his first career start with a 25-save performance against Alaska Fairbanks. He recorded three wins against top-10 teams (No. 5 Michigan, No. 6 UNO and No. 7 Maine). Mike also registered his first assist against Notre Dame at Lawson Arena. He started in 16 of 17 games and played in his final game of the season on January 11 at Michigan State. |
