Biography:
Ben is the lone French Canadian on the team. He came to WMU as a 21-year-old freshman speaking broken English. He grew up in Hawkesbury, a bordering town of the Quebec province. Ben learned the English language primarily through summer travel hockey. He's the Broncos' oldest player and will turn 25 in February. He has spent the last three summers working in WMU's athletic facilities department. He considers knowledge of the game to be his greatest asset and has overcome two knee surgeries. He plans on becoming a secondary school teacher after graduation. As a junior Ben earned CCHA All-Academic Special Mention and is a WMU Scholar Athlete. He recorded two assists in 21 games and opened the season with an assist against Alaska Fairbanks. As a sophomore Ben received CCHA All-Academic Special Mention. He scored the game winning goal 3:21 into overtime at Niagara. He also scored against No. 1 Michigan State on a one timer. Ben was named a WMU Scholar Athlete. As a freshman Ben shared the Suzanne Klop Rookie of the Year Award with Dave Cousineau. He was 11th in CCHA rookie scoring for conference games and sixth in team scoring (21 points). He led WMU rookies in goals (9) and shared the team lead for short-handed goals (2). Ben generated points in 19 games. He provided the game-tying goal against No. 7 Michigan State and scored the game-tying goal, short-handed, with 4:14 left to force a 4-4 tie at Nebraska-Omaha. He got two assists in a playoff loss to Michigan. Ben had seven shots in a 3-2 win over Alaska Fairbanks. He scored his first collegiate goal in second game of the season against Miami. He missed the Ferris State series due to a concussion.
