| Pat was chosen in the fourth round by the Atlanta Thrashers in the 2002 NHL Entry-Draft. He took part in the 2002 U.S. National Junior Evaluation Camp, held in Lake Placid, N.Y. He was one of 45 prospective players invited to the first selection stage of the U.S. National Junior Team. He helped USA Blue squad to a pair of wins as part of the USA Hockey Summer Challenge. Pat went scoreless in four games. He is an instinctive player with confidence in his game and his toughness sets him apart. Pat in the first player from the state of Montana to play collegiate hockey.
As a freshman Pat was named the CCHA Rookie of the Year, named to the CCHA All-Rookie Team and earned the Suzanne Klop Rookie of the Year award. He led rookies in conference scoring, averaging a point per game (28 points in 28 games) and ninth overall in points for league games. He was second in team goal-scoring (17) and third in points (34). He was named CCHA Rookie of the Week and was named Bronco Player of the Week three times. During a nine-game point streak, the longest of the season for the team, Pat recorded 16 points. He was chosen the Perani Cup No. 1 Star of the Game with two goals and an assist in an 8-1 win at Bowling Green. Pat provided the game-winner on the power play in a 4-3 win over No. 7 Maine and was named the No. 2 Star. He was also named the No. 2 Star of the Game on both nights of the Nebraska-Omaha series and the No. 2 Star versus Ohio State in the CCHA Playoffs. Pat was selected the No. 3 Star in both games of the Ferris State series. He scored a nifty top shelf goal at Ferris State. He earned the No. 3 Star after scoring the game-winning goal while short-handed against No. 10 Northern Michigan. He scored the game-winner in a 2-0 win over No. 6 Nebraska-Omaha and had a pair of assists in the Alaska-Fairbanks series. He also contributed a goal and an assist at Alaska-Fairbanks as well as a pair of assists at Miami. Pat scored in his first collegiate game and scored six goals in his first 10 games. He recored points in 10 of 12 games to start the season and had points in 24 games. |
