| Dave spent most of last season with a broken hand, yet still recorded a career-high point total. He was one of three fianlists for the CCHA Offensive Defensive Award last season. It should come as no surprise that he grew up as a fan of Paul Coffey. Dave was named to the Stratford Cullitons' 25-year anniversary team, joining fellow defensemen Chris Pronger and Rob Blake. His brother, Dan, was a captain and four-year letterwinner at Ohio State and has played professionally in the ECHL and WPHL. Dave is considered the best golfer on the team, carrying a two handicap. Dave is a highly superstitious player with an extensive pre-game ritual. He has taken up yoga to improve flexibility and speed on the ice.
As a junior dave earned All-CCHA Honorable Mention. He was named to the CCHA All-Academic Team and was chosen WMU's representative for the Oakwood Sports-Michigan College Hockey.com Breakaway Player of the Year Award. He registered career highs in goals (11), assists (21) and points (32). He was the top scoring defenseman in league games (24 points) and second in power play goals (7) in conference action. He was fifth in team scoring and paced the team with 110 shots. He tied for second in WMU Perani Cup points. Dave had eight mutiple point games and recorded points in 24 games. Twice he was named Bronco Player of the Week. He scored with four seconds left in overtime to lift WMU to a 5-4 victory at Bowling Green and was named the Perani Cup No. 1 Star. He received No. 1 Star honors with a goal and an assist in a 4-4 tie against Notre Dame. He scored two power play goals in 2:01 to earn No. 2 Star of the Game honors against Ohio State and was named No. 2 Star with the game-winning goal in the third period at Ferris State. Dave assisted on first and last goal of WMU's 4-3 upset of No. 7 Maine. He registered two points to earn No. 2 Star honors at Miami. He took eight shots against Canisius. He placed a team-high five shots on goal at No. 5 Michigan. He produced two assists in win over Ferris State and loss at Alaska Fairbanks. He had assists in four straight games and compiled six points during another four-game streak. He is a WMU Scholar-Athlete.
As a sophomore Dave earned CCHA All-Academic Honorable Mention. He was fourth among CCHA defensemen in scoring (in league games) with 18 points and second among WMU defensemen in scoring (19 points) and fifth in team shots (78). He tallied a goal and two assists against Ferris State and he compiled a goal and an assist in a win over Ohio State. He had a pair of assists versus Miami and Bowling Green. He was named a WMU Scholar-Athlete.
As a freshman he was the co-recipient of the Suzanne Klop Rookie of the Year Award and earned CCHA All-Rookie Team Honorable Mention recognition. He was fifth among CCHA rookies in conference scoring. He took a team-high 105 shots, 18 more than anyone else. He was fourth in team scoring (25 points) and power play goals (6). Dave scored twice in a win over Northern Michigan. He generated a goal and two assists in WMU's 7-3 win at Dartmouth which earned him No. 2 Star accolades. He went top shelf on Niagara's Greg Gardner, on of the nation's top goalies. He had a goal and assist in 7-3 victory over Ferris State and assisted twice in 3-3 tie with Michigan State. |
